Youth Empowerment in Martial Arts & Leadership

Youth Empowerment in Martial Arts & Leadership (YEMAL) is a trauma-informed initiative of the Forge of Light Foundation serving youth and families across Juneau and Southeast Alaska. Through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, structured self-defense training, mentorship, and leadership development, the program cultivates emotional regulation, resilience, discipline, and meaningful connection. Guided by culturally respectful practices and community advisors, YEMAL provides a safe, structured environment where youth build confidence, strengthen family bonds, and develop the character necessary to navigate stress, disconnection, and intergenerational challenges with strength and integrity.

Structured Training & Leadership Development

Forge of Light Foundation delivers consistent, disciplined training environments where youth are challenged to grow physically, mentally, and relationally. Our model integrates technical martial arts instruction with leadership development, personal accountability, and positive adult mentorship. Students learn to regulate stress, resolve conflict responsibly, and build strength without aggression while operating within a clear framework of respect and structure. By reinforcing perseverance, humility, and service, we cultivate durable character traits that extend beyond the mat—supporting academic success, family stability, and long-term community leadership throughout Juneau and Southeast Alaska.
